Misha Mahan

Welcome Letter

I wanted to welcome you to what will be a great year of learning! I look forward to getting to know all of you and your parents. I also wanted to introduce myself so you can get to know a little about me.

I have taught 5th grade for 4 years, this will be my first year in 4th grade and second year at Almond Grove. Last year I was nominated to be Almond Grove's Teacher of the Year. Teaching has been a passion of mine for years. Being in a classroom educating the young minds of our future is very fulfilling for me. I want to instill an excitement for learning within my scholars. I feel as though the learning process should be fun and interesting. I consider it my responsibility to create a conducive environment with structure, tools, and support to enable my scholars to success.

I expect my scholars to come to class prepared to learn with enthusiasm, consideration, and respect for themselves, peers, faculty, and me. It is also of the utmost importance my scholars arrive at school with a positive outlook to have fun and enjoy each day spent together.

I lived in the Discovery Bay for 19 years. Recently, I moved to Brentwood and am enjoying living there. I went to Excelsior Middle school and Liberty High School. Needless to say, I have been a local for quite a while. I am thrilled to be able to give back to the community where I have grown up.

I enjoy swimming, wakeboarding, and stand up paddleboarding. Cooking, healthy eating, and working out are some other interests of mine. A few of my favorites are the color pink, Science, the Giants, and “The Bridge to Terabithia” by Katherine Paterson.

                                                 Miss Mahan

We will be using Freckle (all content-based support tool) and Prodigy (math-based game)  in class. The students have the ability to use these tools at home and some learning/web-based fun. They will be sent home with log-in information which is applicable to both home and school.
